John Boehner Re-elected as House Speaker

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, was reelected as Speaker of the House on Thursday, dodging a speculated GOP revolt.

According to The Hill, Boehner won a “bare minority.” Nine Republicans voted for other GOP members. Several others did not vote or merely voted “present.” In 2010, Boehner won all 241 available GOP votes.

Boehner — notoriously at odds with President Obama over the fiscal cliff — made headlines on Wednesday for telling Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) to “go f–k himself.” Boehner reportedly made the comment outside the Oval office in regards to the bitter fiscal cliff battle.

Johnson County District Judge Stephen Tatum on Friday scheduled the preliminary hearing for Oct. 14. The Kansas City Star reports the judge also told lawyers for both sides to reach agreements on how to handle and protect sensitive documents.
