"India Fest 2012 - discover a wonder called India"

 

The 1st ever India Fest will be held on Sunday August 26th, 2012 at the Overland Park Convention Center, 6000 College Boulevard, Overland Park, KS 66211, from 10:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.; and is being hosted by the India Association of Kansas City (IAKC) and other regional organizations representing India. The event is open to the entire Greater Kansas City community and admission to the Festival is completely FREE.

The highlight of India Fest is the showcase of dances, music, variety of food and the arts bazaar. Food stalls representing cuisine from different regions of India will be offered by local restaurants from the greater Kansas City area. In addition, many booths will feature arts and crafts, clothing and other retail goods from India, such as jewelry and home decor.

Check Out the Olathe School District's New Culinary Facility

The Olathe School District is giving the public a preview of their new professional training facility. The new facility located at Olathe North High School features a professional kitchen and a baking and pastry area.

The facility also has a 90-seat restaurant area where the program will host private monthly events at its restaurant, Les Arts Culinaires. The event is Tuesday, Sept. 28 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Culinary Arts Program is part of the Olathe School District's 21st Century Career and Technical Education Programs. National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is September 25

The Lenexa Police Department is teaming up with the Olathe Police Department for National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. It's part of a nationwide effort that will allow people to turn in unused, unwanted and expired prescription and over-the-counter medications on Saturday, Sept. 25.

The event is a safe way to dispose of unwanted prescription medications. It's also is intended to educate the public about proper disposal of medications and the threat of substance abuse among young children and teens when old medications are left around the home.

Hidden Glen Arts Festival is September 18 & 19

The Hidden Glen Arts Festival is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, September 18 & 19. The event live music, entertainment and food. This free event is held at Cedar Creek in Olathe, Kansas at K-10 Highway and Cedar Creek Parkway.

The Festival awards student high school scholarships, hosts the local Plein Air Event, and the Olathe Visual Artists tent, live "Artists in Action" tent, and a Children's Art tent. We also host an active Purchase Patrons program. Our volunteers are the best! To learn more go to hiddenglen.org.

Senior Citizens Awareness Program to Hold Meeting

The City of Olathe Persons with Disabilities Advisory Board is offering an information program for senior citizens entitled the "Olathe Senior Citizens Awareness Program" on Saturday, September 18.

 

The program is designed to empower senior citizens and their families with critical information that is often difficult to understand. The meeting is from  9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Olathe City Hall, 100 E. Santa Fe Street, in the first floor City of Governors conference room. For more information go to olatheks.org.

Children Get Fun Lesson at Farmstead Safety Day

Kids will get to see what life is like for a firefighter, police officer or pilot at Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead Safety Day on Saturday, August 28.

The even is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and admission is $2.  Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead is located at 138th and Switzer

The Overland Park fire and police departments, the Kansas Highway Patrol, D.A.R.E., and other organizations will be on hand to teach children about safety and equipment.

There also will be car seat safety checks by Kansas Safe Kids and State Farm Insurance from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The checks are free.
