Become a World Traveler in Olathe

The Olathe Human Relations Commission and The Great Mall of the Great Plains have partnered with various sponsors and community organizations for the first ever Olathe Cultural Festival. The festival will be held on October 23 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Great Mall of the Great Plains.

The event features cultural booths, food, entertainment, and a huge children's area with passports that are stamped at each cultural booth. Children will receive prizes for their fully stamped passport.

Olathe Library Hosts Cookout and Fundraiser

The Olathe Public Library staff will host a cookout to raise money for the United Way. Staff will grill from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., October 14 at the main library, 201 E. Park. They will hold another cookout  from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. October 19 at the Indian Creek Branch, 12990 S. Black Bob Road.

The menu includes brats, hot dogs, chips, nachos, sodas and treats. People are encouraged to wear their favorite school colors or Chiefs' red and tailgate outside the building.

Metro Man Shows How Talent Has No Boundaries

Families Take Part in International Walk to School Day

Hundreds of metro school children, their parents and teachers hit the streets on Wednesday for International Walk to School Day. It's a day to promote safety habits as well as a cleaner environment. Students from Kansas and Missouri walked to school on Wednesday.

Quisenberry-Harvesters Celebrity Golf Classic, Monday, September 27

The 18th annual and final Quisenberry-Harvesters Celebrity Golf Classic will be Monday, September 27 in Olathe. Local media and sports celebrities, businesses and community participants will take part in the event.

The tournament kicks off at 10 a.m. at the Shadow Glen Golf Club and will end with an awards ceremony. For more information go to harvesters.org.

Veterans Receive Vehicles as Part of Cars for Heroes

A metro organization showed appreciated to metro veterans. About 15-veterans received cars through "Cars for Heroes" on Friday morning. The event was held at Prairie Highlands Golf Course in Olathe. Each family arrived by limousine and the group was honored with a helicopter flyover.

Former Kansas City Chiefs players Neil Smith and Will Shields handed out the new keys. "Cars for Heroes" also provided wheelchair lifts to disabled vets. The veterans that received cars on Friday were from different wars including Iraq, Vietnam, Korea and more.

Check Out the Olathe School District's New Culinary Facility

The Olathe School District is giving the public a preview of their new professional training facility. The new facility located at Olathe North High School features a professional kitchen and a baking and pastry area.

The facility also has a 90-seat restaurant area where the program will host private monthly events at its restaurant, Les Arts Culinaires. The event is Tuesday, Sept. 28 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Culinary Arts Program is part of the Olathe School District's 21st Century Career and Technical Education Programs.
