Olathe Fire Department Captain Bill Schneider is a finalist for the America's Most Wanted All Star. Schneider is a 2-year veteran of the Olathe Fire Department.  Among his other accomplishments, Schneider runs Operation Prom Night, where he gives presentations to local high schools to help prevent car accidents during prom season.You can vote for Captain Schneider here.

MOOS Market Shopping Extravaganza

The Moms of Olathe South, affectionately called the MOOS, are hosting a Vendor/Craft fair Saturday, Feb 26  from 9a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be held at Olathe South High School in the commons area. 

The snow has melted (for today) and it's time for some Spring Fever Shopping! FREE to the public! Sixty fantastic vendors are participating with lots of boutiques, nutritional products, jewelry, hand-made soaps, bling shirts/bags/hats, spiritwear, KU & K-State items, kitchen and cooking accessories, personal fitness items.

There will also be hair accessories, Ed Hardy perfume, purses/handbags, personalized frames, personalized platters, bath & body, home decorating, scrapbooking, Doggie Bling, food, MOOS cookbooks, totes, candles, girls clothing, and much, much more. This is a fundraiser to support the Olathe South Falcon Football team.

Citizen Survey Says Olathe Sets Standard

The results of Olathe’s most recent citizen survey were presented at the City Council on February 15, showing Olathe as one of the top performing cities in the metropolitan area in terms of resident satisfaction, continuing its streak of dramatic improvement.

The survey, DirectionFinder®, is conducted by ETC Institute and included responses from over 1,200 Olathe residents collected in October of 2010. The survey has a +/-2.8% margin of error. Olathe is one of over 500 cities and counties in the United States using DirectionFinder to gauge citizen satisfaction and priorities.

The survey results showed Olathe’s overall satisfaction at a record level, up four points from 2009. Since 2000, Olathe’s composite satisfaction index has increased from a baseline of 100 to 130 for 2010. In contrast, the metropolitan area’s composite index fell from 100 in 2000 to 92 in 2010.

Olathe Holiday Display Brings Cheer

Every year Paul Craig sets up a huge assortment of inflatable penguins in his yard. He does it to celebrate  the season and helps raise money for charity.  FOX 4 spoke to Craig on Sunday about his penguin playground near Mur-Len and Indian Creek Pkwy in Olathe, Kansas.

Craig says the work of setting up the display is worth the smiles on kids faces. They also donate money to the Leukemia Society. Click here to watch this story.

Volunteer with the Snow Brigade

Volunteer with the Snow Brigade

The City of Olathe is looking for volunteers to shovel snow for elderly and disabled residents. Volunteers will assist with snow removal from driveways and sidewalks when there is snow accumulation of two inches or more. If you're interested in volunteering with the Snow Bridgade visit the volunteer page on the City of Olathe's website or call (913) 971 6274.

All individual volunteers must complete a volunteer application and undergo a background check before being assigned a resident or residents. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.

Donate Treats for Soldiers at Tweak the Treat, Sunday, November 7

Tweak the Treat is an event to collect Halloween candy for soldiers. Donations will be mailed overseas to give soldiers a taste of home. The eventwill be held Sunday, November 7 from 2 to 5 p.m.
